Jigwi (志鬼) is a fire ghost in Korean legend.
Its existence is mentioned in Samguk Yusa, but it is only mentioned that it is a ghost that causes fire and Hyegong stopped the fire.[1]
In the story starting with Suijeon and requoted in 『Taepyeongtongjae』(15th century), Daedongunbugunok (16th century), and Haedongjaprok (17th century), a man who had unrequited love for Queen Seondeok became a savage soldier. After suffering from an illness, fire came out of his heart and became a non-ghost, burning everywhere. In addition, Jigwijusa (志鬼呪辭) is said to have been built by the queen at the order of a shaman to ward off Jigwi.[2]
- Jigwisimjunghwa (志鬼心中火) The fire in Jigwi's heart
- After burning his body, he changed and became a non-ghost
- Yoo Yi-chang goes abroad
- There will be nothing to see or meet.
In Daedongunbugunok, it is said that there was a custom of attaching this jigwijusa to a door or wall and praying that a fire would not break out.
