Jim Chu is a Silicon Valley entrepreneur, philanthropist, and angel investor focused on innovation and entrepreneurship in developing markets. Jim Chu has invested in and launched startups in the USA, Sub Saharan Africa[1], and Haiti[2]. Jim Chu is known for his insights in clean water[3], economic opportunity, impact investing[4] and contributing to the sustainability of small businesses in developing markets.[1] [2]

The Nest[edit]

Jim Chu founded The Nest, a weekly Zoom “shark tank” designed to connect aspiring entrepreneurs in frontier markets with angel investors from around the world[4]. It was created in April 2020 during the CoronaVirus lockdown.[5]

Untapped[edit]

Jim Chu founded Untapped in 2018. Untapped supports innovation in frontier markets through asset financing.[6] [5]

dloHaiti[edit]

Jim Chu has been actively working in Haiti since early 2010 and until July 2012 was a volunteer at LifeGivingForce (LGF), a public charity deploying donor-funded private-public water kiosks in urban and rural Haiti.[7] In 2012 he launched dloHaiti, a water kiosk venture in Haiti that is building a network of wells serviced by solar-powered kiosks and equipped with hi-tech purification systems and information technology.[2] dloHaiti is backed by several investors, including Leopard Capital's Leopard Haiti Fund, the International Finance Corporation's InfraVentures Fund,[8] the Netherlands Development Finance Company (FMO), and Miyamoto International.[9] [10]
