His tenure spans over three plus decades in the music industry. Best known for his radio broadcasting endeavors, he is also a published author and music industry publishing executive.

RADIO CAREER 1983-2005:

Alvarez began his vocation in music in the early ‘80s as a nightclub Disc Jockey. Within a year, he landed a board operator position at radio station KFRN (AM 1280: Long Beach, California). His tenure there was short, but it opened the door for his first commercial radio venture in 1989 at new wave power station KROQ, 106.7 FM in Los Angeles [“Pasadena”] (FKA Roq of the 80’s and currently known as The World Famous KROQ). At KROQ, Alvarez worked alongside overnight Disc Jockey “Swedish Egil” Aalvik, where he produced “All Night Radio.” Working the overnight shift caused Alvarez to acquire his FCC license in January 1991, which enabled him to work as a broadcaster to this day.

In the latter part of 1991, Alvarez was named program segment producer and co-host of the station's Sunday morning public affairs talk show program, “Openline.” The show hosts featured “Spacin” Scott Mason, and Boyd “Doc on the Roq” Britton. Other rotating hosts featured Gene “Bean” Baxter and Doug “Sluggo” Roberts.

Alvarez served as KROQ’s Public Affairs Director from 1992 through 1996 with oversight responsibility of managing the station’s public file and quarterly FCC reporting. He went on to work at other Southern California stations, Mars FM, Groove Radio, and The American Radio Network – broadcast simulcast through the iHeart Radio Network.

The magazine has grown from a start-up to where they are today, with 60M + unique views with personal interviews with bands/artists and shows / festivals that matter to their readers. Genre footprint is rock, alt rock, punk, reggae, and ska of all eras. Article/column footprint also touches pop, rap and country genres.
