Jimmy LaRose (born 'James Paul LaRose'; September 2, 1967 in Kingston, NY), is an American author & entrepreneur.[1] He has been recognized for his unique theory specific to non-profit management. His views are that board members should indeed be incentivized monetarily to drive the success of a non-profit. It has also created notable controversy around how non-profits should be considered under a 501c status if they are internally incentivizing leadership with bonuses and increased pay.
LaRose is author of the non-fiction book Re-Imagining Philanthropy.[2] The book is based on a thesis about how charities better serve the clients of a non-profit, in which he identifies donors as volunteers rather than individuals receiving services.[3]
As of January 15, 2019, Jimmy is listed as a cast member for a documentary based on his book, Re-Imagining Philanthropy. The film is focused on non-profit management.[4]
Educational background[edit]
LaRose initially graduated college in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tennessee Temple University and Word of Life Bible Institute. He then studied for his master's degree from Liberty University. Jimmy went on to study his doctorate in Philanthropic Studies from Ecumenical University. He has also received additional education at the Association of Fundraising Professionals Faculty Training Academy and National Planned Giving Institute through the College of William & Mary.
Foundations[edit]
In 1990, LaRose founded and is CEO of Development Systems International (DSI), which is an initiative of the 501(c3) corporation National Development Institute (NDI) that claims to ensure nonprofits have professional access to fundraising through Major Gifts Ramp-Up.[5][6]
He also co-founded NANOE in 2016, which stands for National Association of Nonprofit Organizations & Executives.[7] This US based Association is composed of donors, volunteers and charitable leaders focused on providing best-practices for non-profit leadership.[7]
Personal life[edit]
LaRose married Kristi on the 5th of January, 2014 and currently lives in Lexington, South Carolina.[8] He is son of Father, Joseph LaRose (deceased), & Sharon LaRose.
