Jioji started formally working in the community sector in the year 2000 [12] through various youth worker roles under Shire Wide Youth Services, and Riverwood Punchbowl Anglican Church. He started his first full time social work role in March 2003 through Mission Australia as a Post Release Support Program (PRSP) Caseworker.[3][4]. Working in partnership with Juvenile Justice NSW such work focussed on supporting young offender and their families across south west Sydney, including City of Campbelltown (New South Wales) and City of Liverpool (New South Wales). He continued to work within youth offender focussed program under Mission Australia until mid 2011.

Jioji commenced his role as an Associate Professor in social work at the University of Wollongong in March 2018 [1], where he is involved in overseeing their new Master of Social Work (Qualifying) degree.
Research interests and activity[edit]
Jioji predominately focuses his research on five keys overarching areas; mental health, substance abuse, youth, social exclusion and decoloniality[15] [16] [17] [18] [19]
Previous research includes the overrepresentation of marginal group across youth offending, youth homelessness, promoting access tertiary education for equity groups and decolonising social work practice, policy and research. Current research funding projects examine alcohol and other drug usage amongst refugee young people, and mental health literacy amongst migrant communities across western Sydney [20][21].
Notable works[edit]
Jioji was lead editor in a new book titled Pacific Social Work [22] published by Routledge in mid 2019. With 20 chapters co-authored by 30 people working with Pacific people across Oceania and beyond, the book explores various field of practice related to Pacific communities whilst also decolonising westernised views of social work practice approaches.
Other key work include a toolkit for practitioners working with young offenders, understanding risk and protective factors around tertiary education, and the role of visual imagery and its practices across social policy[23]
