Jishnu Mohan

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Dr. Jishnu Mohan is an Indian oral and maxillofacial surgeon. He was a third-year postgraduate resident at the Post Graduate Institute of Dental Sciences (PGIDS), Rohtak, when he filed harassment and assault allegations against a faculty member in April 2025, a matter that drew coverage from regional press and prompted an institutional inquiry and protests by resident doctors' associations.

Early life and education

Mohan is from Kerala, India. He pursued a Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Post Graduate Institute of Dental Sciences (PGIDS), Rohtak, affiliated with Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences (UHS), Haryana.[1]

Career

Mohan worked in oral and maxillofacial surgery in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at PGIDS Rohtak. He co-authored a peer-reviewed technical note on management of atypical coronoid process displacement in zygomaticomaxillary complex (ZMC) trauma, published in the Journal of Oral Biology and Craniofacial Research.[2] He also co-authored a case report and literature review on a primary extracranial meningioma of the temporal region with oral extension, published in the Journal of Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery.[3] He co-authored a further case report on a solitary fibrous tumor of the temporal and infratemporal region, also published in the Journal of Oral Biology and Craniofacial Research.[4] He was also a co-author on a systematic review, drawing on 103 studies covering 281 patients, of diagnostic approaches, surgical management, and outcomes for solitary fibrous tumors of the head and neck, published in the Journal of Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery.[5]

2025 PGIDS Rohtak controversy

On 2 April 2025, while a third-year MDS resident in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department, Mohan submitted a complaint to PGIDS and UHS Rohtak authorities alleging sustained mental harassment, verbal abuse, and physical assault by his postgraduate guide, identified in press coverage as Dr. Ravinder Solanki.[6] The complaint described being made to perform personal errands for the professor over an extended period.[7]

UHS Rohtak constituted a three-member inquiry committee comprising the Dean of PGIMS, the UHS Dean of Student Welfare, and the PGIDS Principal.[7] Solanki was withdrawn from supervising postgraduate students and directed to avoid direct or indirect contact with the complainant pending the inquiry's conclusion.[6][7] Solanki denied the allegations as false.[1] Mohan told EdexLive that he had raised the same concerns internally for an extended period before filing the formal complaint, and separately, an earlier complainant in the same department had previously alleged discriminatory remarks and harassment by Solanki.[8]

Mohan subsequently wrote to the Chief Minister of Haryana and other state officials alleging bias in the inquiry process and calling for its reconstitution with an independent member and a Resident Doctors' Association (RDA) representative.[1] Police registered an FIR against Solanki under provisions relating to wrongful confinement and criminal intimidation.[1]

Resident doctors at PGIMS and PGIDS held black-badge protests in solidarity, and the RDA issued a press release condemning the incident and calling for disciplinary action.[9] The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) also issued a statement on the case.[9] A former RDA general secretary described the case as reflecting a recurring problem of harassment in medical training institutions more broadly, rather than an isolated incident.[7]
