Recognized as one of the world's largest such clusters, AMTZ stands as a testament to Dr. Jitendra Sharma's visionary leadership and commitment to advancing healthcare through innovation and industry development.

Beyond his pivotal role at AMTZ, Dr. Jitendra Sharma serves as the Founder and Executive Director of the Kalam Institute of Health Technology.[2] Under his guidance, this institute operates as a prominent medical technology policy hub, extending its expertise and services to various Ministries of Government of India. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Jitendra Sharma spearheaded the creation of the DBT-AMTZ Command Centre, which, starting from scratch, evolved into the pioneering supply hub for providing COVID-related medical devices. The Command Centre at AMTZ in Vizag produced over 10 Lakhs (1 million) RT-PCR COVID tests and more than 1,000 oxygen concentrators every day. AMTZ is now a member of BRICS Business Council and hosts the Centre of Excellence for Medical Technology for BRICS countries. Similarly, Kalam Institute of Health Technology (KIHT) set up by Dr. Jitendra Sharma is recognized as World's first WHO Collaborating Centre for Health Innovations.

Early Life and Academic Background[edit]

Dr. Jitendra Sharma was born in Chittranjan,West Bengal, and hails from West Bengal, India. He obtained a B.Sc in Organic Chemistry, followed by a Postgraduate degree in Hospital Administration, a Master's in Financial Management, a Postgraduate degree in Health Economics & Policy, and a Postgraduate degree in Healthcare Quality.

He earned a PhD in International Health Regulations from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, a Doctorate in Health Technology Assessment from VU Amsterdam, and a PhD in Health Financing from MATS University, India.

Dr. Jitendra Sharma holds three academic PhD/doctorate degrees and has received training from various prestigious institutions, including AIIMS - New Delhi, PMDA-Japan, Uppsala Monitoring Centre - Sweden, JBI Institute - Australia, Harvard School of Public Health – USA, Vrije Universiteit - Amsterdam, Tata Institute - Mumbai, MATS University - Raipur, and Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning - Prashanti Nilayam.

Awards & Recognition[edit]

Dr. Jitendra Sharma has been awarded the European Union–India Young Leaders Award at the European Union Parliament in Brussels in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the medical technology sector.[6]

He holds the distinction of being the first Indian to receive the prestigious Laufmann Greatbatch Award[7] from AAMI-USA and has also been honored with the Leadership Excellence Award by the American College of Clinical Engineering.[8]

He has received the 2nd Custodians of Humanity Awards in recognition of his exceptional contributions to healthcare during both the pre and post-pandemic periods. This prestigious accolade is presented by IGHM in association with Medgate Today.

Dr. Jitendra Sharma's book- 'Made in Lockdown'­­­[9] is considered as the first book chronicling the complex subject of medical technology. For the general readers. It is one of the best non-fiction category books on India's fight against Covid, in which AMTZ played a major role, with Dr. Jitendra Sharma led it from the front.

2017 Global Health Leaders Award by Health & Wellness Congress. Over 60 special awards and facilitations for bringing novelty and outcome-driven processes in the health sector, particularly in healthcare technology.

Dr. Jitendra Sharma has served as a designer and coordinator for numerous technology-intensive health programs in India, founded nine organizations focused on medical technology within the country, and imparts education on global health policy and health technology through various courses.
