Jiya Doshi[edit]

Jiya Himanshu Doshi, a 15-year-old 'instapoet' and an aspiring writer is a prodigy of this generation. Her verses go way beyond her age and she is known to experiment with a range of styles ranging from rhyming, twin-cinema, reverse, songs, etc.

Born in Mumbai, India, on April 28, 2008, she has received notable mentions on the theauthorsfoftomorrow [1]page in an article titled: Jiya Doshi’s Untamable Spark of Passion & Drive. She describes that her journey of writing started at the tender age of 5, and some of her memories include falling asleep while listening to rhymes. In the article aforementioned, she also said that her mother was one of her earliest teachers and with her parents', teachers' and friends' support she could nurture her talents. "Her very first post is about her views about girl power, when she was just 13 years old. Now, her more recent posts are about instances, feelings and questions she faces day-to-day," says the article. Not only that, but her inspiration roots from her daily life, and in an interview she said: I keep participating in poetry competitions, half because I have something to share and half to find an audience eager to read.

Her poem, It's Mine! has also been through as one of the Spoken Word Finalists in Write the World's annual poetry contest as seen on her social media wingsofwords_jiya[2] highlights. Her poem has also been featured in Hashtag Kalakar's magazine.

She believes: "People say poetry is dead. We are some of the last few remaining to carry it in the world, to pass it on, spread the words..."
