Jo Swerling, Jr.

Jo Swerling, Jr., is a television producer and writer. He was born on June 18, 1931, in Los Angeles, California.

Family[edit]

He is the son of Jo Swerling, an American playwright, lyricist and screenwriter. His brother, Peter Swerling, was one of the most influential radar theoreticians in the second half of the 20th century.

Career[edit]

Swerling produced many television shows in the 1970s and 1980s, including Alias Smith and Jones, The Rockford Files, Baretta,[1] Hunter, The A-Team and 21 Jump Street.[2] He was supervising producer for 26 episodes of The Commish in the 1990s.[3]

Swerling produced a made-for-TV movie in 1974 based on the story of Pretty Boy Floyd, the Depression-era bank robber. Martin Sheen starred in the title role.[4]

Swerling had longtime professional relationships with fellow television producers Roy Huggins[5] and Stephen J. Cannell.[6]

Awards[edit]

In 1977, he received an Emmy nomination for producing a network adaptation of Captains and the Kings in the category of Outstanding Limited Series.[7][8]
