Joachim Llambi (* 18. Juli 1964 in Duisburg) is a german-spanish dancer, judge and TV-host. After his career as a professional competition dancer, he is now a judge in amateurcircles. As a TV-host and judge he has worked in different TV-shows such as Jeopardy! or Let’s Dance.

Biography[edit]

Llambi was born in Duisburg in 1964. His father, King from Barcelona and a German mother and grew up there. When he was eleven years old, his father fell ill with a brain tumor and was cared for by his mother and him for nine years until his death. After graduating from the Neusprachliches Gymnasium Neudorf in Duisburg in 1984, he began training as a bank clerk at Sparkasse Duisburg. At the end of the 1980s he switched to the Düsseldorf Stock Exchange as a stock broker, and from 1997 to 2012 he worked as a stock broker on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

At the age of 16 he took his first dance lessons; his mother worked at "Duisburger Tanzschule Paulerberg" as a secretary .[1] In 1989 he switched from amateur to professional dancers and took part in professional world and European championships (10 dances) with his partner Sylvia Llambi until 1991. From 2003 to 2011 he was media officer for the DPV (German Professional Dance Sport Association). From 2012 to 2016 he was Executive Director of the Professional Division of DTV. From 2013 to 2014 he was sports director of the international dance sport federation WDSF.

Since 2006 he has been a member of the jury for the television show Let's Dance, a dance competition in which celebrities compete alongside a professional dance partner. In July 2011 he was on the RTL show It can only be seen with Andrea Kiewi. In addition to Mark Medlock and Sandy Mölling, Llambi was a jury member in The Singing Company.[2]


In 2022, Joachim Llambi took over the patronage of the Duisburg non-profit association zebrakids e.V.[3]

Privates[edit]

In 1990 he married his dance partner Sylvia Putzmann, from whom he separated in 2003 when he met his second wife Ilona, ​​who came from the Czech Republic. He married her in 2005. They have a daughter together; his stepdaughter (* 1999) comes from Ilona's previous marriage.
