After that, he started his career as an Assistant Principal and Head Principal at the East Jasper School District, Heidelberg High School where he led the school to a nearly 60-point growth in over three years.

After Heidelberg High School, he continued leading other institutions towards growth. From 2011 to 2012, he served as the Principal of Pointe Coupee Central High School, a charter school operated by the Advance Baton Rouge. He helped the school achieve an 18-point growth on Academic Index and prepared it for state takeover with the Louisiana Department of Education.

His leadership also brought great improvement on students’ test scores and curriculum at the West Bolivar High School. And because of the huge increase in test scores, he was featured on Larry Bell’s October 2015 workshop brochure.

Furthermore, he also served as the Principal of Amanda Elzy High School for two years. From 2014 to 2016, he helped reduce fights from 68 to 13 and implemented norms to set up academic programs.

Prior to his most recent appointment at the Meridian High School, he also headed Moss Point High School. During his first year of duty there, he led the school from a D to a B status which he helped maintain for four years. While serving as the principal, he was also named MPSD Administrator of the year 2018.

Apart from being a principal, he has also been working as an adjunct professor since 2014. He taught Health at the Mississippi Valley State University from 2014 to 2016. At the same time, he also shared his knowledge in English at the Coahoma Community College from 2013 to 2016. The following year, he started teaching the same subject at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and still does until today.

Education Joe Griffin’s dedication and passion for teaching began to develop during his educational training at the Coahoma Community College and Belhaven University. He graduated from both institutions as an honor English graduate and lived on academic and athletic scholarships as he played for the college basketball team.

As he started taking leadership roles in schools as a lead teacher, assistant principal, and principal, he pursued higher studies by taking Master of Education in Secondary Education at Delta State University. Joe also specialized (Ed.S.) and received his Ph.D., Educational Leadership District-Level Emphasis from the University of Mississippi.

Family and Community Involvement Joe was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi which bears the title, “The Home of the Blues.” Both of his parents were professional educators just like him. However, his passion for leadership stemmed from his coaching experiences during the early years of his career.

He loves to spend most of his free time bonding with his sons, serving as referee for basketball games, watching sports, and writing poetry.

As his way to give back to the community, Joe also makes sure to donate clothes to the Salvation Army every year. Besides donating, he also spends time volunteering at local care stations.
