Early life and Education
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1959, and raised in King Township and Toronto, Ontario. Jackman attended King City Secondary High School, and in 2015 he was honoured with the Case of Distinction for accomplished alumni. He went on to study Industrial Design at Fanshawe College, graduating in 1984, and was awarded with the honour of Distinguished Alumni in 2006.
Career
Jackman co-founded Perennial Inc. in 1989, a branding and design consultancy, applying his industrial design skills to the retail and packaged goods sectors.
In 2005, Jackman joined the executive leadership team of Loblaw Companies Limited, as Executive Vice President, Marketing, leading the charge in the launch of Joe Fresh in collaboration with Joe Mimran, and the refresh of the President Choice brand of products.
In 2007, Jackman continued his entrepreneurial endeavours and founded Creaticality Inc., a multi-discipline team of retail strategists and transformation experts, serving as President and CEO. The company was rebranded Joe Jackman Brand in 2009, and finally, Jackman Reinvents, in 2013.
In his career, Jackman has played a key role in the optimization of companies and/or their brands across North America: ATD (American Tire Distributors), Athleta, Caesars Entertainment, Canadian Tire, Dave & Busters, Earth Fare, Flow Water, Hertz, FreshCo (formerly Price Chopper), JCPenney, Joann Fabric, Kroger (Dip brand), Loblaws, Neal Brothers, No Frills, Old Navy, Rexall, Shaw’s Supermarkets, Staples, The Beer Store, US Foods (formerly US Foodservice), Walgreens, and Weston Bakeries.
On January 28, 2020, Jackman’s first book The Reinventionist Mindset: Learning to love change and the human how of doing it brilliantly (published by PageTwo Books[2]) was released. The book chronicles his journey as a self-declared “serial Reinventionist”, giving readers the rare opportunity to go behind the scenes with storied business transformations: Dave & Busters, from down and nearly out to spectacular IPO[3]; the surprising reinvention of a New York retail institution, what Bloomberg Business Week called “Duane Reade’s Miracle Makeover”[4]; Flow Water, a bold new take on a tired category; and the exciting reemergence of Staples. Jackman details the principles of successful reinvention alongside lessons learned from failed transformations.
Personal life
Joe Jackman is the youngest of six siblings.
In 2017, Jackman married Nooshin (Caterina) Sharifi, in the newly remodelled Crystal Ballroom at the King Edward Hotel in Toronto. Jackman has three children from his first marriage - Lucy, Grace and Niall - and the family resides in Toronto.
