Joel Aita is a Ugandan Civil Engineering professional, infrastructure consultant, entrepreneur and motivational speaker. Also known as Jaffer, he is the founder and CEO of Joadah Consult Limited, Executive Director of Development Infrastructure[1] plus chairman[2] of Arua Hill Sports Club which he bought in 2020 in order to bring back fan interest in Uganda football.

History[edit]

Born on 9 April 1980 in Arua, his surname translated from Lugbara language means "faith". Aita studied at Muni Primary School, Arua Demonstration School and Mvara Secondary School (six years) plus was in the Makerere University Class of 2004. For two years, he worked with Fichtner, a German[3] consulting company. By 5pm, everybody would leave but Joel would remain working until 10pm. His boss would find finished design work on his table in the morning and liked him. Joel wanted to learn faster hence worked late hours and then decided to form his own Joadah Consult, a regional provider of technical and management support services. His company[4] was rated Number 1[5] among the Top 100 Mid-sized Companies in Uganda in 2015 by KPMG. Employees include architects, engineers, designers, planners, scientists, management and construction service professionals. Aita mined sand from River Jordan in Mvara, Arua during his Primary 7 vacation and knitted sweaters after Senior 4.

Personal life[edit]

Joel is married with four children and lives in Entebbe. The company name Joadah is a portmanteau of his own name Joel and that of his girlfriend Ada[6] whom he later married. He has written a book entitled "Jaffer's Decade: An Entrepreneur's Mind" and believes an entrepreneur[7] must be ahead of the curve, predicting opportunities before they arrive. To him: Capital is not the most important thing in starting a business; planning, courage and thick skin are the most important.
