Joseph Kopec III is an American college football linebacker for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

Early life

Kopec was born and grew up in Northfield, Ohio and attended Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy (CVCA).[1] In CVCA's final matchup against Northwest High School on October 11, 2024, Kopec contributed over 200 rushing yards and two touchdowns to CVCA's 500 team yards on the night in the 55–21 rout.[2] Kopec also ran track in the spring, along with playing football.[3] On March 8, 2025, Kopec committed to play for Rutgers, over multiple offers.[4] On September 26, 2025, Kopec rushed for 107 yards and 2 touchdowns as CVCA totaled 250 rushing yards as a team on the day, beating Lake Catholic High School 28–21.[5] On December 10, 2025, Kopec was announced as the All-Ohio Division III Defensive Player of the Year.[6] He also was named First-team All-Ohio Divison III.[6]
