Joseph Glenn Roach (February 20, 1962 – August 28, 2009) was an American professional boxer. Roach was originally from Dedham, Massachusetts and fought via Las Vegas, Nevada. Roach was the youngest of the 3 Fighting Roach Brothers along with Freddie Roach and Pepper Roach.

Career[edit]

Joey and his brothers were all trained as amateurs by their father Paul Roach. By his teenage years, Roach had already established himself as one of the dominant forces in New England boxing. Winning several silver mittens and golden gloves titles. Brother Freddie had already moved out to Las Vegas and was making a name for himself and Joey followed. In his second fight, Roach would be on a card along with Freddie and Pepper, marking the first of 2 times the 3 Roach Brothers would fight on the same card. The fight would take place on June 11, 1982 at the Boston Garden with Joey and Pepper winning their respective bouts before Freddie, who was 26–1 at the time, would lose a unanimous decision to a relative unknown named Rafael Lopez.[1]

Roach had started to establish a decent career losing only once in his first 10 bouts. However, in December 1985 he would lose a unanimous decision to 1984 Olympic Gold Medalist Paul Gonzales. Three fights later he would lose via TKO to Mauro Diaz, who was previously 1–7–1 before the fight with Roach. Roach would retire from boxing shortly thereafter.

Retirement[edit]

After his career as a fighter ended Roach remained in Las Vegas and started work as a telemarketer. He would eventually start his own business, becoming a multi-millionaire. He died suddenly of a heart attack on August 28, 2009, he was 47 years old.[2]
