Johan David Herbst is a former South African rugby union player, who played first class rugby between 2011 and 2016. He played for [[{{{tan}}}|{{{t}}}]], the [[{{{tan}}}|{{{t}}}]] and the [[{{{tan}}}|{{{t}}}]] in the domestic Currie Cup and Vodacom Cup competitions and made one appearance for the [[{{{tan}}}|{{{t}}}]] in Super Rugby.[1] His regular position is scrum-half or wing.

He retired in 2016 to become a fleet controller at a transport business.[2]

Career[edit]

2013 Southern Kings Super Rugby season[edit]

He was included in the [[{{{tan}}}|{{{t}}}]] squad for the 2013 Super Rugby season.[3] However, he was just included in the matchday squad for the first game of the season against the [[{{{tan}}}|{{{t}}}]], coming off the bench to make his Super Rugby debut.[4] He returned to [[{{{tan}}}|{{{t}}}]] for their 2013 Vodacom Cup campaign, but suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury after three appearances and was ruled out for the remainder of the Super Rugby season.

Pumas[edit]

He moved to the [[{{{tan}}}|{{{t}}}]] for the start of the 2014 season,[5] but missed the entire season through injury.

He was a member of the Pumas side that won the Vodacom Cup for the first time in 2015, beating [[{{{tan}}}|{{{t}}}]] 24–7 in the final.[6] Herbst made seven appearances during the season, scoring one try.

Varsity Cup[edit]

He also played for [[{{{tan}}}|{{{t}}}]] in the 2009 and 2010 Varsity Cup competitions.
