Johann Biacsics
Johann Biacsics (30 March 1957[1] – 11 November 2021) was an Austrian anti-vaccination campaigner who was regarded as a leader within the Austrian anti-vaccination movement.[2]
Biography[edit]
Biacsics was a supporter of the "Querdenker" movement,[2] and one of the principal drivers of protests against Vienna's COVID-19 related closures.[3] He was one of a group of people attempting to set up the German dieBasis political party in Austria. He was a retired gardener.[1]
He promoted his particular views on alternative medicine, including the claim that it could cure cancer, in his self-published books and YouTube videos.[3][4]
Biacsics became ill in October 2021 with diarrhea, fever and cough, and in early November 2021 he had such severe breathing problems that his family had him admitted to hospital.[5] He tested positive for COVID-19, but refused to have treatment. He discharged himself from hospital and returned home, where he used chlorine dioxide enemas in an unsuccessful attempt to treat his disease.[3][6][7] His condition continued to deteriorate, and a few days later his family called an ambulance but he was dead when they arrived.[3]
Biacsics' date of death from COVID-19 was reported as 11 November 2021.[8][9]
