Johann Gottlieb Mehnert

Johann Gottlieb Mehnert, also Johann Gottlob Mehner (ca. 1720 after 1781) was a German organ builder in Stettin.
Life[edit]
His origin is unknown. On 23 June 1746 he was named as a journeyman under Joachim Wagner in Berlin. After the latter's death in 1749, he remained in the workshop under his successor Johann Peter Migendt until at least 1756. Before 1763, Mehnert founded a workshop in Szczecin. From about 1780 to 1783, Georg Friedrich Grüneberg was also active there.[1] In the Kreuzkirche in Posen, both built a doublet system, probably a transmission manual based on Wagner's model. After Mehnert's death, Grüneberg took over the workshop in Stettin.[1] The year of Johann Gottlieb Mehnert's death is unknown.
Work[edit]
Mehnert is known to have built new organs, carried out repairs and provided expert opinions. Parts of the organs in Poznań (Posen) and Chojnice (Konitz) are preserved.
