John A Schindler

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

John Albert Schindler (Mar 23, 1903- Nov. 16, 1957) was a Wisconsin physician and author.[1] He wrote a best-selling book, “How to Live 365 Days a Year,” in 1955 which has been translated into more than 13 languages and sold more than 1 million copies. [2] Dr. Schindler was the first to introduce the concept of Emotionally Induced Illness (EII), and he believed that half of all illnesses were caused by stress, sadness, and trauma. His significant contribution to medicine is the idea that diseases can have emotional components. He encouraged his patients and readers to embrace positivity in their lives.

Dr. Schindler was born in New Glarus, Wisconsin. He received his bachelor and master of science degrees at the University of Wisconsin in 1926. He attended medical school at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. After his graduation in 1931, he returned to New Glarus to practice. In addition to writing “How to Live 365 Days a Year,” he also published a women's health book in 1956 called “Woman's Guide to Better Living" and a history of southwest Wisconsin called "The Old Lead Trail." The latter was required reading for 7th grade in Wisconsin schools.[3]

Dr. Schindler received nationwide fame in 1949 after his lecture at the University of Wisconsin entitled “How to Live to 100 Happily.” Unfortunately, this was not to be for Dr. Schindler himself. He was killed in a car accident at the age of 54, just two years after his best selling book was published.[4]
