John Burder (born 2 August 1941) is a British film director, producer, broadcaster, script writer, editor and author.
Career[edit]
Burder began his career with the BBC, which at the time only had one channel and was only on the air for a few hours each day. Burder spent three years at Ealing Studios,[1][2] the world's oldest production facility. He went on to work at Lime Grove Studios, where he worked on the Queen's Christmas Message and the first pilot episodes of the popular science fiction series Doctor Who.[3][4] Throughout his time at the BBC he directed and produced films with many prominent people such as John Hutton (artist)[5] Following his time at the BBC, he founded his own production company.[6]
Burder was director, producer, script writer and editor of over 120 films.[7]

Hell on Earth: My Life in the Trenches 1914-1918 is a memoir about Burder's father, Claud, who served as a captain in the British Army during World War I, including experiences in the trenches during the battles of Ypres and the Somme. A book he wrote lay hidden up in a chest for 97 years until discovered by John Burder in 2009.[19][20][21][22]Taken aback by the horrifying details of his father's experience, John Burder was determined not to let them go unreported.[23] Captain Burder's pages are transcribed directly in the memoir; authorship is attributed to Captain Claud Burder, while John Burder is credited as editor.[24] The book featured in an exhibition in the British Library (BIS) of the University of Oldenburg in Germany.[25]
