John C. McDonnell, Jr. (Born October 27, 1961) is an American actor, stand-up comedian and voice over artist.[1][2] Early Life John McDonnell was born on the Southside of Chicago. He graduated from Brother Rice High School in 1979. He started doing stand-up at the Comedy Cottage in Rosemont, Il on July 17, 1980. After dropping out of Northern Illinois University in 1981 he held a series of day jobs and did stand-up at night. He started working at Zanies in downtown Chicago in March of 1983.

Career John continued to work comedy clubs in Chicago and its suburbs including the Comedy Womb in Lyons, Senesee's Winery in Oak Lawn and the Chicago Comedy Showcase in Chicago. His first road gig was at Wiley's in Dayton, Oh. As he continued to tour the US, he worked for John Yoder throughout the upper Midwest, Tom Sobel's Comedy Caravan and the Punchline Comedy clubs in the Southeast. After visiting Los Angeles in 1984 and auditioning at the Comedy Store, the Improv and the L.A. Cabaret, he returned to Chicago to continue working the road and save money to move. He moved to Los Angeles in January of 1987 and auditioned once again. Budd Freidman gave him work at the Improv and in addition to getting regular spots at the original club on Melrose Ave, he also worked regularly at both the Improv in Santa Monica as well as the location in the Valley. John made his TV debut on "Star Search" and appeared on "An Evening at the Improv" five years in a row from 1989-1993. John also appeared regularly at Igby's in West L.A. and the Ice House in Pasadena, CA. After several appearances on TV doing stand-up, John began to get work as an actor on television. His first acting job was on the TV series "Coach". He continued getting guest star roles on sitcoms such as "The Drew Carey Show", "Mad About You" and "Friends". He eventually started working in TV dramas. He started in 2001 on "State of Grace" and then onto other shows including recurring roles on HBO's "Mind of the Married Man" and "ER". John moved to Austin, TX in December of 2009 to work on the final season of "Friday Night Lights. He continues to live and work in Austin doing voice work for online video games (DC Universe Online, Prate 101, Wizard 101 and War Goonz).
