John Kwatakye-Atiko (born on April 22, 1987) is an American record executive from Far Rockaway, Queens, New York.[1] In February 2023, he launched Popular Demand Entertainment, an artist development agency and label.[2]
Early life and career
Born and raised in Far Rockaway, Queens, New York, John’s music career commenced at a remarkably young age. At just 16, he embarked on an internship at the legendary record label, Island Def Jam, under the mentorship of Steve Carless, Kendell Freeman and Shawn "Pecas" Costner within the Mix-Show Radio Team. During his tenure at Def Jam, John played a crucial role in the marketing department and was responsible for promoting a myriad of influential artists, including LL Cool J, Mariah Carey, Kanye West, Young Leek, Juelz Santana, Ne-Yo, Rihanna, Jay-Z, Teairra Mari, Memphis Bleek, Ludacris, among others. Some of John's marketing contributions include Mariah Carey's "The Emancipation of Mimi," Kanye West's "The College Dropout," Ne-Yo's "In My Own Words," Ludacris' "Red Light District," and Lionel Richie's "Coming Home."
In 2022, John signed rapper Ariie West to an artist development deal.[3] In January 2023, he and Ariie West released his single "Dangerous," which garnered 1.7 million views within its first two weeks on YouTube. Thereafter, the two landed a sponsorship deal with sneaker giant Reebok.[4][1][5][3]
