John Daniel Maher is an Irish Labour Party politician. He is currently a councillor on Cork City Council.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]

Political career[edit]

Maher was selected to run in the Cork City North East Ward in the 2019 local elections.[9] He was successfully elected and received the second highest number of first preference votes in the ward.[10][11][12][13] In 2019, he was selected to contest the 2019 Dail by-election in the Cork North-Central constituency.[14][15][16] He was described by the Irish Examiner as a "the one bright point for Labour in the local election in Cork City, claiming their only seat on the council."[17][18][19][20][21][22]

Personal life[edit]

Maher attended St. Patrick's B.N.S and later Mayfield Community School, before graduating from Cork Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Business Studies (Marketing & Management) Honours Degree. He is involved in St. Patrick's Scout Group on Summerhill North and is currently a Scout Leader with the Group.[23]
