Jolyon Thomas
Jolyon Thomas is an English record producer, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and mixer. He has worked with a variety of genres and artists, including U2, Royal Blood, Kendrick Lamar, Haim, Slaves and Daughter.
Although predominantly a music producer, Thomas is also a member of Youth Hymns: a video making directorial team. As part of this collective, he has made music videos for artists, including Slaves, Arman Cekin, Snoop Dogg, Superfood, ALMA and Wolf Alice.[1]
Jolyon is also the son of fellow record producer Ken Thomas.[2]
Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine on September 8 2017, U2's The Edge spoke of Thomas' production work on the forthcoming U2 album Songs of Experience.
"Jolyon Thomas is a great state-of-the-art rock & roll producer in that he gets and loves bands. He gets and loves guitars, but at the same time what is the right guitar sound so you don't come across like you aren't right up to the minute. There are subtle things sometimes, just the difference between a White Stripes guitar sound and a Led Zeppelin guitar sound. In some ways it's a subtle thing, but in other ways they are worlds apart."[3]
Awards and recognitions[edit]
Thomas won the MPG Breakthrough Producer award in March 2018.[4]
Damn. by Kendrick Lamar was nominated for Album Of The Year and Best Rap Album at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards.
Are You Satisfied? by Slaves was shortlisted for the 2015 Mercury Music Prize.[5]
If You Leave by Daughter won Independent Album of the Year at the 2013 AIM Independent Music Awards.
We Can Create by Maps was shortlisted for the 2007 Mercury Music Prize.
