Jon Carlo is an American screenwriter, director and actor.

Early Life[edit]

Carlo was born in Oakland, California but moved to Israel with this family after only a few months in the United States. A few years after that, he moved to Buenos Aires and then finally settling in Toronto, Canada.[1]

Education[edit]

Carlo received a a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Davis.[citation needed]

As an actor, he studied with Eric Morris as well as Howard Fine.[citation needed]

Career[edit]

Carlo moved to Los Angeles in 2008 and booked roles on hit TV shows such as Parks and Recreation[2] and Transparent.[3] After trip to Park City for the Sundance Film Festival, he was inspired to write his first script, which he submitted to the Sundance Screenwriters Lab. His first script shockingly made it to the final round of the Sundance Screenwriters Lab, which landed him his first paying gig as a screenwriter.[4]

Carlo’s first produced screenplay[5] entitled First We Take Brooklyn starred Oscar Nominee Harvey Keitel, and was released worldwide in 2018 under 2B Films, directed by Danny A. Abeckaser.[6] His follow-up script, Mob Town, was shot the following year in New York, starring David Arquette, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Robert Davi, PJ Byrne and Jennifer Esposito, released in December 2019.[7] The film received much box office success and is still streaming with high placement across all digital and VOD platforms.

In 2019, Carlo was hired to write and direct his first feature film entitled Feral State, starring AnnaLynne McCord (whom he previously worked with on First We Take Brooklyn).[8]

After many delays including the global COVID-19 pandemic, Feral State was acquired by Vertical Entertainment for North American distribution and was released theatrically and on VOD in the summer of 2021[9]

In August of 2021, Feral State was acquired up by Hulu for streaming on the platform.[10]
