Jon C. Rogowski (born 1980) is an American political scientist and author. He is an associate professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Chicago.[1] He studies representation and accountability, political institutions, and American political history.

Education and work experience[edit]

Rogowski attended UNC Greensboro and performed in the marching band before transferring to UNC Chapel Hill for his junior year. There, he earned a B.A. in Political Science in 2003. Rogowski received his M.A. in 2007 and Ph.D. in 2012 from the University of Chicago in Political Science. He was the recipient of E.E. Schattschneider Award for the best dissertation in American politics (2013), by the American Political Science Association and recipient of the best dissertation on the presidency (2001). Rogowski taught in the Political Science Department at Washington University in St. Louis from 2012 to 2016 as an assistant professor. In 2016, he moved to Harvard University where he served as an assistant professor (2016-2019) and an associate professor (2019-2021) in the Government Department. In 2021, he accepted an offer to become an associate professor in the Political Science Department at the University of Chicago, where he received his Ph.D. nine years earlier.

Research and Awards[edit]

Rogowski's current research study the growth of bureaucratic institutions and the use of presidential power in the contemporary and historical periods. He has published a book with Saul Jackman and William Howell entitled The Wartime President: Executive Influence and the Nationalizing Politics of Threat (University of Chicago Press, 2013).

He has published about presidential power in various outlets including Presidential Studies Quarterly.[2]

Rogowski was awarded the Outstanding Reviewer Award by Political Research Quarterly in 2017.
