Jonathan William Seaton DL MBE (born December 1982) is a British businessman and entrepreneur who is the co-founder and CEO of Twinkl Educational Publishing.

Early life and career[edit]

Seaton was born in Cambridgeshire but moved to Sheffield in 1992, where he was raised and educated.[3][4] His first entrepreneurial experience came from starting a tuck shop as a child at school.[4] Seaton studied at the University of Sheffield.[3]

Before going into business, Seaton trained as a lawyer;[5][6] he co-founded Twinkl three months into his training period.[7]

Career in business[edit]

Seaton co-founded Twinkl, a classroom resources provider, in 2010 with his wife Susie, at the time a primary school teacher.[8] As of 2019, Twinkl had an annual turnover of over £18 million.[9]

As well as serving as CEO of Twinkl, Seaton is a currently a director at Natterhub, a social media platform for children, Twinkl Hive, an edtech accelerator hub, and the electricity provider Mobile Power.[1]

Through Twinkl Hive, in 2020 Seaton launched an entrepreneurship scheme offering grants for young entrepreneurs.[10]

Posts and honours[edit]

Seaton is an Enterprise Ambassador at the University of Leeds’ Centre for Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Studies,[11] and a visiting professor at the University of Strathclyde’s Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship.[12]

In 2018 Seaton won the ‘Scale-Up’ award at the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year North Awards.[13][14]

In March 2020 he was appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant of South Yorkshire.[5][15]

In October 2020 Seaton was awarded an MBE for services to technology and education during COVID-19;[16][17] Twinkl had offered free access codes to its teaching resources during the pandemic to support home learning in lockdown.[18]
