Jonney Shih (Chinese: 施崇棠; pinyin: Shī Chóngtáng; born 18 July 1952) is a Taiwanese business executive who served as Chairman of ASUS from 2008 to 2020, transforming the company from a motherboard manufacturer into a global consumer electronics brand.[1]
Early life and education
Shih was born in Lukang, Taiwan. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University in 1974, followed by a Master's degree from National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (then National Chiao Tung University) in 1976.[2]
Career
Leadership at ASUS
Shih joined ASUS in 1994 as President and was appointed Chairman in 2008. Under his leadership:[3]
- Launched the ASUS ZenBook line in 2011[4]
- Expanded into smartphones with ASUS ZenFone in 2014[7]
- Introduced the Zenbo home robot in 2016[8]
- Shifted ASUS to premium brand positioning[6]
Management philosophy
Shih developed the "Three C's" approach (Creative, Confident, Courageous) that emphasized hands-on product testing. He stated:[6]

Later career
Shih stepped down as Chairman in June 2020, appointing S.Y. Hsu as his successor while retaining the title of Chairman Emeritus.[5] He continues to serve as technology advisor and mentors Taiwanese startups.[3]
