Jos Carnival
Jos Carnival [1] is an Initiative of Plateau State Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Hospitality aimed at improving unity, peaceful coexistence and travel into the state for recreation, leisure or business. It is without mincing words that Plateau state is the home of Peace and Tourism. The idea of having a carnival became necessary in order to deepen peace, harmony, showcase arts, the rich culture, create opportunities for the youths and attract investors.[2] The maiden edition took place in April 2017 in the capital city of Jos.
History
As a way of strengthening the fragile peace on the Plateau as well as improving its tourism while showcasing the rich arts and culture of the people, the Jos Carnival was birthed. The Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong and the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Hospitality saw the need for a carnival as an opportunity to further unite the people through tourism. This annual festival brings people together regardless of ethnicity, nationality, race, religion, age or gender. The Carnival gives people the opportunity to learn about their cultural heritage and it is packed with a lot of events. Plateau state is known for hospitality and has a beautiful cold weather, it is a tourism destination to a lot of tourists within and outside Nigeria.[3] The festival fosters unity and peace through its events as it brings people together to celebrate arts and culture. The carnival allows the world to see the good and untold stories, as against the bad narratives portrayed on the world wide web.
Activities
