Jose Rizal: Life, Works, and Writings of a Genius, Writer, Scientist, and National Hero is a 1983 biography of Filipino writer and nationalist José Rizal, written by historian and politician Gregorio F. Zaide and his daughter Sonia M. Zaide. Rizal, an ophthalmologist by profession, was a major figure of the Propaganda Movement in Europe which advocated for political reform within the Captaincy General of the Philippines; upon Spanish accusations of rebellion, he was executed in 1896 and became a symbol for the cause of Philippine independence.

Gregorio was a prolific writer of textbooks and biographies throughout his life,[2] and had written about Rizal for more than 50 years before the publication of Jose Rizal;[3] he has been called by historian Ambeth Ocampo "the most popular textbook historian of his generation."[4] Gregorio and Sonia Zaide together wrote the biography with the purpose of replacing the former's previous college textbooks on Rizal from 1957 and 1970, which they considered to have become outdated or obsolete.[5] A "Centennial Edition" was issued in 1999 to make the book more durable for librarians, as it was originally released on low-quality newsprint paper.[6] A 3rd edition was released in 2018.[7]
