Jose Thomas Pattara is an Indian entrepreneur and investor known for his contributions to various industries, including telecommunications, real estate, and renewable energy.
Early Life
Pattara hails from the Pattara family in Muhamma, Kerala. He pursued his education at institutions including CMS LP School in Muhamma, Kaavungal School, St. Mathews High School in Kannangara, and St. Michaels in Cherthala.[1]
Career
After spending approximately one decade managing his family-owned trading business in the United States, Pattara returned to India in 1995. Upon his return, he diversified his business interests into retail financing, trading, and real estate. In 1999, he co-managed M/s Rastra Deepika Ltd.,Deepika (newspaper) serving as its Managing Director[2][3] until December 2005. During this period, he also led Kumarakom Lake Resorts (Pvt.) Ltd.[4], transforming it into a prominent resort in Kerala.
Pattara was the first angel investor in MobME Wireless Solutions Ltd.,[5] investing in the company when its founders were still in college. He has been a Non-Executive Non-Independent Director at MobME since December 11, 2006.
Beyond MobME, Pattara has invested in several companies and holds directorship positions in various sectors. As of January 2025, he serves as a director in ten Indian companies across industries such as manufacturing, agriculture, real estate, telecommunications, construction, and pharmaceuticals.[6]
Renewable Energy Initiatives
Demonstrating a commitment to sustainable development, Pattara initiated a 2.1 MW wind power project in Tamil Nadu, India. This project, registered with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), contributes to reducing carbon emissions.[7]
Cultural Involvement
Pattara is also known for owning and sponsoring the Pattara Chundan[8], a traditional snake boat (chundan vallam) representing the Kumarakom region in Kerala’s famed Vallam kali boat races. Under his patronage, Pattara Chundan has consistently competed in the prestigious Nehru Trophy Boat Race held at Punnamada Lake, achieving top-tier finishes,[9] including a notable fourth-place result in the 2012 finals.[10] Revered as both a sporting vessel and a cultural symbol, the boat exemplifies Pattara’s commitment to preserving Kerala’s maritime traditions and fostering local community pride.
Jose Thomas Pattara is also a co-owner of the Trivandrum Royals,[11] a franchise in the Kerala Cricket League (KCL) T20 tournament organized by the Kerala Cricket Association. Launched in September 2024, Trivandrum Royals finished the inaugural season falling to Calicut Globstars in the semifinals . Notable performances included a tight rain-affected win over Kochi Blue Tigers via the VJD method and a commanding four-wicket victory against Aries Kollam Sailors . This venture highlights Pattara’s commitment to advancing grassroots cricket in Kerala by investing in regional talent and fostering competitive, community-backed sporting platforms.
