The Joseph Ambler Inn is an American restaurant and bed and breakfast located in North Wales, Pennsylvania. Its name is derived from the eighteenth century owner of the property, Joseph Ambler, a wheelwright, whose family owned the land until 1825.[1]

History[edit]

The inn currently sits on land first owned by William Penn. In 1711, fifty acres of the region was sold to William Morgan, an early settler from Wales in Montgomery county. In 1723, the ownership of the property was sold to Joseph Ambler, who built its original fieldstone house in 1734, which is still in use as a hotel and office.[2][3] In 1825, the property was sold to a squire named John Roberts. He renovated its farmhouse and built a barn before the property was sold to the Wright family, who built a schoolroom on the estate.[1] After various landowners, the twelve acre estate was purchased by the current owner and founder of the establishment, Richard Allman, in 1983. The inn officially opened in 1987.[4]

Recognition[edit]

In 2020, the restaurant was given the "Award of Excellence" by the Wine Spectator.[5]

In 2021, the Knot Worldwide Editorial, The Knot, gave the establishment a "Best of Weddings" award.[6]
