Joseph Augustus Rafferty III
Joseph Augustus Rafferty III (born 1976) is an American lens-based artist whose work explores the intersection of personal identity and abstraction. His fine art practice utilizes finding ways to make work with quotidian materials at hand, to explore themes of self-representation, transformation, and the covert psychological space.[1]
Education and Life
In 2020, Rafferty was accepted into the International Center of Photography's (ICP) Creative Practices Program in New York.[2] He is currently an MFA candidate in the Image Text Program at Cornell University, where his work focuses on the intersection and failure of language and image to communicate essential truths.[3]
Exhibitions
He has exhibited his work internationally in the 2020 exhibition URBAN Unveils the City and its Secrets - Vol. 06, L O S T: A Photographic Journey in Trieste, Italy, and nationally, including the 2022 solo exhibition and artist-in-residence, "Artists and Americans," at Barton Art Galleries at Barton College, Wilson, NC,[4] and the 2022 solo exhibition, "Love is All Heart Break... Until It Isn't," at the Contemporary Art Museum, Raleigh, North Carolina.[5][6]
