Joseph Giuseppe Turi
Joseph Giuseppe Turi is a lawyer, jurist, professor, and consultant. He currently is resident and Secretary-General of the International Academy of Linguistic Law. Amongst his academic degrees, he holds a Ph.D. in Law and a Master’s in Political Science with expertise in Canadian and Comparative Linguistic Law. Often a guest speaker and international consultant, particularly in the fields of linguistic policies and cultural policies, both at national and international levels, he authored more than 125 scientific and cultural publications including Linguistic Legislation published in the Encyclopedia of Applied Linguistics in 2013.[1]
Personal Life
Born in Morocco, Casablanca, in 1934, from an Italian father and a French mother, he has one brother and two sisters. During World War Two the family lived in Liège, Belgium where he started primary school. After the war, the family moved to Naples, Italy and he continued on to get his Doctorate, 110/110 cum laude, in Public Law at the University of Naples Federico II Faculty of Law.
In 1959 he arrived in Montreal, Canada with a research grant from the Canada Council to carry out research into European and Canadian public Comparative law at the University of Montreal’s Faculty of Law

Career
Joseph Giuseppe Turi is a professor, lawyer, jurist and consultant with special expertise in Canadian and Comparative Linguistic Law. He is a former senior civil servant of the Government of Quebec for Constitutional, Legal, and Linguistic Services. He is Secretary-General of the International Academy of Linguistic Law. Guest speaker and international consultant, particularly in the field of national and international linguistic and cultural policies, he is a visiting professor having been invited by several universities on the international scene. Additionally, he is a member of the Research Commission on Language Policy of the International Political Science Association and the Vice-President of the Multicultural Association of Language and Law.
Moreover, he is a member of the editorial boards of the following scientific journals: Journal of Nationalism; Memory and Language Politics; International Journal of Law, Language and Discourse; Diversity; and Cosmopolis.

International Academy of Linguistic Law
Joseph Giuseppe Turi is the Secretary-General and President of the Montreal, Canada-based International Academy of Linguistic Law. Its focus is on the legal aspect of language, linguistic diversity and rights while analyzing and evaluating the impact in regards to the law, policies, and societal implications. Every two years an international conference, gathering academics and scholars is held in collaboration with universities. Programming includes lectures, debates, consultations to foster dialogue between nations and peoples with a global outreach. Analysis, propositions, and recommendations are submitted and contributions are published in The Conference’s Proceedings.
The Academy was founded in September 1984 by 100 founding members in Montreal and Paris and brings together jurists, linguists, social scientists. The Secretary General also acts as President of each biennial international conference[3]

Joseph Giuseppe Turi distinguished himself through academia and his contributions on many levels.
He is a Research Associate in Comparative Linguistic Law at University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
