Joseph Kopser is an American aerospace engineer, businessman, and politician from the state of Texas.

Kopser was raised in Lexington, Kentucky.[1] Kopser attended the U.S. Military Academy, where he trained as an aerospace engineer.[2][3] He served at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, and was deployed to Iraq for two tours of duty, in 2004 and 2006-2007. He earned the Bronze Star Medal.[1] He then worked at The Pentagon on Future Combat Systems[2] and for the Chief of Staff of the United States Army. He retired as a lieutenant colonel in 2013.[1]

Kopser returned to Austin, where he ran the University of Texas at Austin's Reserve Officers' Training Corps program, and founded RideScout, a trip-planning app.[1] RideScout later sold to Daimler AG.[2] He continued to work for RideScout under Daimler's ownership until Donald Trump's victory in the 2016 United States presidential election turned him to politics.[1]

In the 2018 elections, Kopser is running for the United States House of Representatives in Texas's 21st congressional district. Kopser advanced to the runoff election against Mary Wilson, and won. He faced Chip Roy in the November 6 general election,[4] and lost, though he received more votes than any other Democrat running for the U.S. House in Texas. Kopser may run against Roy again in the 2020 elections.[5]

Kopser and his wife, Amy, have three children. They live in Austin, Texas.[1][2]
