Joseph Lucas Fonsil Davis (born 17 March 2003) more professionally known as Joseph Davis is a English-Jamaican pianist and singer/songwriter. Davis' parents, Angela and Sheldon noticed that he developed a liking for the piano at the age of three, and decided to invest in it immediately. They bought him a keyboard, and noticed that he could play semi-advanced songs with two hands. It was from there that Davis began his musical career. He began taking exams with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music in England at age six. He achieved distinction in grades two, three and four in the practical exam, and in his grade five theory exam. He also achieved merits in his grades five, six, seven and eight practical exam. Davis says he 'probably will not attempt the diploma until he's a senior at high school'. Davis has performed at numerous concerts, including 'Mello Go Roun', 'The High Scorers' Concert', and numerous [1] Jamaica Cultural Development Commission performances.

Life and music[edit]

Early life[edit]

Davis was born on the 17 March 2003, to podiatrist Angela Davis and information technology consultant Sheldon Davis in Mayday Hospital. His first name was originally inspired by the biblical figure, Joseph, Davis also has a younger sister, Lilia Davis, who was born on the 10 June 2009.

School years[edit]

Davis attended Little Crystal's Day Nusery in London, England in his early years, and enjoyed it very much. He then attended Cumnor House School in Purley, London. It was here that the music director, Richard Sizer noticed the potential in him. They registered him in the ABRSM examinations, and he even skipped the first (Grade 1) exam. Davis excelled up until Grade 6, where he migrated to the Caribbean island, Jamaica on July 25, 2013. He attended the Heinz Simonitsch School in Montego Bay for one month, before realizing the fee was too high. He transferred to Mount Alvernia Preaparatory School in October 2013. It was in Jamaica that he worked with Avery Crooks-Campbell for Grade 7 and Grade 8, and achieved merit in both examinations. Currently he attends Campion College and is working on his music repertoire with Roger Williams, the head manager of The Edna Manley School of Music, Jamaica.

The Way[edit]

Davis is also a singer/songwriter, and has recently finished writing all songs in his first album, The Way. The album consists of 8 songs, 3 of which have been recorded. The names of the songs, from first to eighth are:

  1. Girl I want you to be mine
  2. You and Me
  3. Missing You
  4. That Feeling
  5. Love You Anyways
  6. Stay Home
  7. I think
  8. Jealousy

Davis wrote Girl I want you to be mine in around mid-2014 just to experiment on what it would be like. He wrote it based on a real story in his personal life. After recording this song, he realized that he really liked to write and record songs, so he created an album. He named it The Way, inspired by singer and actress, Ariana Grande's hit song, The Way. From there, he wrote, composed and recorded 2 other songs. They were named You and Me, and Missing You. He has also written and composed 5 other songs on his album, but they have not been recorded yet. When this album has finished in mid-2016, Davis says that he will start on a new album called New Era. At this moment, he is currently working on his third song on New Era, but he says he won't get too "caught up" because he hasn't gotten all of his songs on The Way recorded. Davis' music manager is Alana Gabrielle Chang, who was always a very close friend of Davis and she agreed to be his manager in February of 2016. She now receives 20% of his earnings.

Oddities[edit]

Davis has two fears:

  1. Emetophobia (fear of vomit)
  2. Acrophobia (fear of heights)
