Joseph Ngozi Nkoro or Joe Nkoro (born 17 may 1982) is a Nigerian Youth Leader and currently the governorship candidate for the Young Progressives Party (YPP) Abia State and the state party leader.
Background[edit]
Nkoro was born on 17 may 1982 in Owerri in the old Imo State, to the family of Late Chief Paul C Nkoro and Lady Lucy Nkoro (deceased). He hails from Eziukwu, Nnentu in Aba South LGA of Abia State. He attended Government College Umuahia where he completed his secondary education in 1999. He proceeded to Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka Anambra State, where we studied Mechanical / Production Engineering, graduating with a Bachelor in Engineering in 2006. He completed the one year compulsory National Youth Service in Lagos 2009. Nkoro is the Chairman of Aquiline Global Ventures now Aquiline Ultra Pro Limited.
Activism[edit]
Nkoro has been a very vocal pro-democracy, Youth advancement and good governance advocate since 2008. In 2013, he formed the Strategic Abia Youths Advancement Movement (SAYAM) with a colleague Obinna Nwagbara. The association's aim was to create awareness of the need for youths to be actively engaged in the polity of the state for their own advancement and the state's, to also hold leaders accountable.
In 2016 he formed the Nigerian Youths for Leadership, a non-violent, non-ethnic, non-religious pro-democracy group. The main purpose of the group is to unite every Nigerian Youth under one umbrella with one voice and a sole aim of effecting the election of competent and selfless young leaders through the electoral process.
Beliefs[edit]
Nkoro believes that the Nigerian youths have the competence and wherewithal to effectively direct the affairs of Nigeria and the states, in order to build a new and stronger nation. He believes that the potential of the Nigerian Youth is greatly underused or completely abused. He believes that an empowered and prosperous youth population is an indices of a prosperous state or nation.
Politics[edit]
In 2018 with the introduction of New political parties in the Nigerian Electoral system, Nkoro joined the Young Progressives Party and indicated interest to run for the office of the governor under the party platform [1]. on 6 October 2018, he emerged as the party’s gubernatorial candidate and State flag bearer in a State convention and Gubernatorial primaries held in Umuahia the state capital. The Young Progressives Party also fields notable Nigerian politicians like Professor Kingsley Moghalu as the Presidential Candidate and Patrick Ifeanyi Uba.
