Joseph Franklin Pippen, Jr. (born (1947-01-11)January 11, 1947) is a prominent lawyer, educator, and author in the Tampa Bay area. His practice covers many areas of law, including estate and tax planning,[1][2] probate, real estate, asset protection, Medicaid, bankruptcy, guardianship, and family law.

Pippen is the author of a popular book on Florida law titled “Ask An Attorney All About Florida Law,” which covers various legal topics relating to Florida law. Pippen has taught Business Law and Management at Anne Arundel Community College and St. Petersburg College and has received numerous recognitions and achievements for his work.

Early life

Joseph Pippen Jr. was born in Richmond, Virginia in 1947. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1969 with a degree in economics. He also served in the National Guard as a Captain of a combat engineering group. From 1969 until 1980, he was an executive in management positions in the fields of manufacturing, production control, marketing, purchasing, finance, and public relations. From 1980 through part of 1982, he served as general manager of Micro-Plate, Inc. of Florida and helped guide the small, high-tech company into becoming a major force in the printed circuit-board industry.

Career

Legal

Joseph Pippen Jr. graduated from the University of Baltimore Law School http://law.ubalt.edu/index.cfm in 1975 with a Juris Doctorate degree. He began practicing law in 1982 as a solo practitioner. Since then, his practice has grown to include nine attorneys and 18 office locations located throughout Florida.

Pippen is active in philanthropic efforts throughout Tampa Bay. He serves as trustee for the $2 million Evelyn Oster Scholarship Fund. Each year, this scholarship helps needy Catholic high school students fund various college-related expenses, including books, tuition, room and board, class fees, supplies, and more. The scholarship provides necessary funds to help today's youth become tomorrow's leaders.

Throughout his business and legal career, Pippen has made significant contributions and received numerous recognitions, including:

  • He is the recipient of an honorary doctorate degree from Landmark Baptist Bible College.
  • He is President of the Tampa Bay Chapter of Partnership for Philanthropic Planning.
  • He is the founder and President of the Tampa Bay Christian Legal Society.
  • He has been honored four times as one of the "Outstanding Men of America."
  • He is listed in Who's Who of Finance and Industry and Who's Who in American Law.
  • He has been cited as one of the "Outstanding Volunteer Activists."

Despite his accomplishments, Pippen is proud of his service to the United Way and his volunteer time with young people through the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Foundation.[3][4] Over the years, Pippen has helped raise over a million dollars for the United Way, furthering its mission for young children and youth everywhere.

Hugh O’Brian Foundation

Through his dedicated service to the community, Pippen quickly rose in the Hugh O' Brian Youth Foundation, becoming the State Chairman for Florida in 1972. He later became the National Leader, overseeing volunteers for seminars, a role that significantly impacted the foundation's success.

Author

Pippen's book, "Ask an Attorney: All About Florida Law," discusses legal issues affecting Florida residents, including residency, wills, personal representatives, probate, healthcare surrogates, power of attorney, trusts, estate planning, divorce, injuries, disability and death, automobiles, business, real estate, Medicaid, and more.

Radio

Attorney Joseph Pippen has hosted a weekly call-in radio show, "Ask an Attorney," since 1985. He also hosted a national call-in radio show, "Ask an Attorney," on the Sun Radio Network. Joe Pippen hosted "Ask an Attorney" on WTBN 570 & 910 AM, WGUL 860 AM, WLVF 90.3 FM, and Fox News Radio, WFLA 970 AM. Listeners called a toll-free number to receive free legal advice from Joe Pippen. Every Saturday and Sunday, he dedicated time to provide legal guidance live on air, serving the surrounding counties.
