Joseph Stalder

Joseph Franz Xaver Dominik Stalder (born 29 March 1725 in Lucerne, died 4 January 1765 in Lucerne) was a Swiss composer.[1][2]

Biography[edit]

Stalder attended the Jesuit college in Lucerne and attained a position at the Collegium Helveticum in Milan, an institution for Catholic students from the Swiss Confederation and the Three Leagues.

From 1750 he studied music under Giovanni Battista Sammartini. As a composer he worked in Mainz, London and Paris, and went on to work in Mainz, London and Paris, where he was [Kapellmeister]] for the Principality of Monaco, and from 1760 for the Prince of Condé. In 1762 he returned to Lucerne for the role of organist at the Church of St. Leodegar, and in 1765, he died in his hometown.
