Joseph "Joe" Visconti (born December 9, 1956) is an American politician and businessman. He served as a West Hartford, CT Town Council member from 2007 to 2009, and he was the Republican candidate in 2008 for the 1st Congressional District. Visconti is also a member of the Tea Party and has been a leading gun rights activist since 2009.

Early life and education[edit]

Visconti lives in West Hartford and has three children, Joey-30, Gabriella-27, Michael -24. He graduated from William Hall High School in 1974, and from The University of Hartford with his Associate's Degree in Telecommunications in 1978.

Private sector[edit]

Owns and operates Joseph Visconti, LLC, a general contracting company specializing in commercial renovations and repairs. Worked as a crew member for the International Alliance of Theatrical State Employees, and was employed by the City of Hartford on the technical crew at the Civic Center. He also worked shows at the Bushnell Auditorium, Oakdale Theater, the Springfield Civic Center, and Colts Park in Hartford. He moved to Florida in 1995, and upon his return to Connecticut in 1999, he reentered the family construction business and formed Joseph Visconti, LLC, a general contracting company specializing in commercial renovations and repairs. His clients have included Aetna, Marriott Hotels, and American Power Conversion. He also owns and operates a media company for publishing, recording and production of television programming and music. [1]

Public sector[edit]

Joe spent four years in Dade County, Florida from 1995 to 1999 where he began his public career by volunteering for "Safe Neighborhood Parks," a non-profit established to secure funding for safe play areas for Miami-area children. His community involvement also includes founding Disabilities & Possibilities, a non-profit dedicated to raising public awareness of issues experienced by people living with disabilities. He received an Emmy Award in 1997 for his television productions.

Visconti was elected to the West Hartford Town Council serving from 2007-09, and is a patron of the arts and community activist. He served on the council's Community Planning and Development Committee, and was a Council liaison to the West Hartford Board of Education.[2]

2014 Gubernatorial Campaign[edit]

In 2013, Visconti announced that he would run for Governor of Connecticut against incumbent Dannel Malloy.[3]

2018 Gubernatorial Campaign[edit]

Joe Visconti is currently running for Governor. On April 19, 2017 he filed paperwork with the State Elections Enforcement Commission to enter the race. He will be bypassing the Republican convention nomination process and instead attempt to qualify for the primary by petitioning.[4]
