Josh Crawford (born August 8, 1984) is an American football coach and former player who is currently the running back coach for the Georgia Bulldogs. Crawford was previously the wide receiver coach for Georgia Tech.
Early life and education
Josh Crawford was born on August 8, 1984, in Montrose, Alabama. He attended Morehouse College and played college football for the Morehouse Maroon Tigers as a running back. Crawford graduated from Morehouse with a bachelor's degree in political science and later earned his Master's degree from the University of Georgia in Public Administration and Policy in 2012.[1]
Coaching career
Crawford began his coaching career in 2010 at Greater Atlanta Christian School, coaching tight ends and running backs. He continued his coaching career as an offensive coach at four more storied high school football programs in Georgia and Florida: Colquitt County (2014-16, 2020); Valdosta (2018-19); Lee County (2017) and Jefferson County (2013). In 11 seasons as a high school coach, Crawford helped lead teams to three Georgia 6A state championships: Colquitt County in 2014 and 2015 and Lee County in 2017.[2] The 2015 Colquitt County team was named National Champion by High School Football America.[citation needed]
In January 2021, Crawford was hired as outside receivers coach by Western Kentucky. In his second season at Western Kentucky, and second overall in college football, he was named Co-Offensive Coordinator for the 2022 season.[3] For the 2023 season, Crawford returned to the state of Georgia as wide receivers coach for the Georgia Tech Yellowjackets.[4] After a year in Atlanta, Crawford was selected to replace Dell McGee as running backs coach at the University of Georgia after McGee accepted the head football coach position at Georgia State.[5]
Under Crawford's tutelage, Georgia Running Back Nate Frazier was PFF's highest graded running back in the 2025-26 College Football Playoff.[6] And in at "big win on the recruiting trail," Crawford secured the commitment of Jae Lamar, the nation's No. 8 running back prospect in the Class of 2026.[7]
