Josh Pate[1] is a national college football analyst for 247Sports and CBS Sports HQ from Fortson, Georgia. He is the creator and host of The Late Kick with Josh Pate[2], which airs live on the 247Sports YouTube channel[3] and various podcast platforms[4][5]. He formerly worked for WLTZ NBC 38 as a sports director and news anchor and as an on-air radio host for the Columbus, Georgia ESPN affiliate WIOL.
Career[edit]
Pate got his first opportunity to test his chops after initially communicating with one of the hosts of WIOL over Facebook. A regular listener of WIOL's Afternoon Drive, he was given the chance to sit in, observe the show, and ask questions which led to a last minute fill-in spot when that host was unable to make it to the show due to an illness. Having practiced regularly for his dream to do sports broadcasting, he was prepared, with less than 5 minutes to prep, and went on to successfully work his first afternoon call-in radio show. He became a regular fixture on WIOL's Afternoon Drive as a host.
After 2 years as a sports radio host, he moved on to the local NBC affiliate WLTZ NBC 38 as the host of football television show when he received a called from the general manager, who had been listening to his radio show on his drives home from work.[6] Pate was then promoted to sports director and news anchor shortly after his start.
In 2017, he decided not to renew his contract after seen the potential of new platforms such as Facebook Live and Youtube Live. His then general manager and news director battled to keep him on, but Pate decided to bet on himself and start his own show. He negotiated to become an independent contractor for the television station, taking a significant pay cut, and created The Late Kick with Josh Pate, a Facebook Live and Youtube Live sports show housed in the same WLTZ studio. In 2 years, Pate amassed a significant following[7], so much so that Shannon Terry[8], formerly of 247Sports and current owner of On3[9], offered him a position to bring Late Kick Live to 247Sports and grow their social media and streaming channels. [10]
Josh Pate continues to remain a constant figurehead on 247Sports as the host The Late Kick with Josh Pate as well as lending his analysis across the college football landscape as a leading national college football analyst, talking with the likes of Nick Saban, Mario Cristobal, and other notable college football coaches.[11]
