Abstract: This essay discusses the reasons that humanity should colonize Mars. The main reasons presented in the thesis are: discovering new technologies, a clean slate for us to redevelop a civilization whilst learning from our problems on Earth, ensuring the survival of humanity. A counterthesis is presented for the "ensuring the survival of humanity" argument: "This will not happen in our lifetime"(Habka).
