Joshua Mervyn Smith (born 15 November 1986) is a professional sports scientist and strength and conditioning coach, whose field of interest is football. He has worked for South African football giants, Kaizer Chiefs.[1], Genclerbirligi SK during their time in the Turkish Super Lig[2], Supersport United[3], and now currently for AmaZulu FC [4] and the South Africa national football team [5].

Education[edit]

Joshua attended Durban High School, matriculating in 2004 [6]. He went on to attend the University of KwaZulu-Natal, graduating cum laude in 2007 with a Bachelors in Sports Science. He further his studies at the University of Cape Town, graduating with a BSc Medical Honours, Exercise Science (Biokinetics). In 2017 he completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine (Distinction) from University of South Wales, and in 2018 graduated with his Masters in Sports and Exercise Medicine (Distinction) from the same institution[7] [8]. His Masters thesis focused on the use of football conditioning games as a training modality and the physiological and technical benefits associated.

Beyond his tertiary studies, Joshua has attended various Expert Meetings held by Raymond Verheijen and his World Football Academy [9]
