Joshua Parsons is an American politician and member of the Republican Party who currently serves as the Chairman of the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners.
Parsons was elected as County Commissioner in 2016 where he ran unopposed in the general election.[1] He won on a platform based on fiscal conservatism, community collaboration, and keeping taxes low. [2] Prior to being elected county commissioner he served as the County Clerk of Courts for Lancaster County and worked in the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office. [3]
Parsons also served as a member of the faculty at his alma mater Penn State Dickinson School of Law where he has instructed courses in Trial Advocacy for over a decade. [4]
During his tenure as Chairman he oversaw the COVID-19 pandemic in Lancaster County and worked with local hospitals to launch a mass-vaccination site at Park City Center. Parsons worked closely with State Senator Ryan Aument who served on the state's COVID-19 Taskforce to help secure vaccinations and funds for the site.[5] Despite supporting the mass-vaccination site, Parsons has not publicly supported a county-wide department of health despite calls from local activist groups[6] and ended the county's emergency declaration on April 28, 2021.[7] As Chairman, Parsons had oversight over the funds Lancaster County received directly from the federal government from both the CARES Act and American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. During a testimony with the U.S. Senate Banking Committee on June 15, 2021, Parsons argued that the American Rescue Plan funds were unnecessary and that Lancaster would save these funds for future emergencies and needs.[8] Parsons refusal to quickly release these funds has been criticized by some within the county.
