Joshua Simmons (born April 15, 1995), nicknamed "Mr. 4.2", is an American professional football wide receiver and kick returner. He most recently played for the Pittsburgh Maulers of the United States Football League (USFL), now the United Football League (UFL).[1]
He played college football at the College of St. Scholastica,[2] Navarro College,[3] and Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU).[4]
Early life
Simmons was born in Houston, Texas, to Raquel and Bobby Simmons. He began playing football at age four with the South West Steers youth program, where he played quarterback. He also participated in soccer, basketball, and baseball.
He attended Kate Bell Elementary, Johnston Middle School (now Meyerland Performing & Visual Arts), Dowling Middle School (now Lawson Middle School), and Jack Yates High School in Houston.
High school career
At Jack Yates High School, Simmons played for Coach Ronald Miller. In his senior year (2012–13), he recorded 780 passing yards, 6 passing touchdowns, 600 rushing yards, 9 rushing touchdowns, and 1 interception. He also played wide receiver and cornerback.[5]
College career
Simmons began his college career at the College of St. Scholastica in 2013, playing both football and track. He was part of the Saints' conference championship football team and set a school record in the 60m indoor dash.[6]
He transferred to Navarro College in 2014, then to Prairie View A&M University on scholarship, redshirting the 2015 season and playing in 2016–17. Simmons also competed in track at PVAMU.[7]

Professional career
Simmons went undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft but ran a 4.25-second 40-yard dash at his pro day, leading to a rookie minicamp invite with the Buffalo Bills.[8][9]
2018: Berlin Rebels (GFL)
Simmons signed with the Berlin Rebels of the German Football League, playing wide receiver and return specialist. He was named Offensive Player of the Week and helped lead the team to a #3 finish.[10][11]
2019: BC Lions (CFL)
Simmons was signed by the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League, but did not play due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[12]
2021: The Spring League (TSL)
He joined the TSL Jousters in 2021 under head coach Kevin Gilbride, recording four touchdowns and helping the team reach the Mega Bowl final.[13]
2023: USFL – Pittsburgh Maulers
In 2023, Simmons joined the Pittsburgh Maulers, where he led the USFL in kick return yards (28 returns for 862 yards), was fourth in all-purpose yards, and was named to the All-USFL team.[14][15]
