Jowan Safadi, (Arabic: جوان صفدي, pronounced Joe-wan Sah-fa-dee), born in 1973, is a Palestinian musician, author, and composer, born in Nazareth having resided in Beersheba, and lives today in Haifa. He sings in Arabic and uses both Hebrew and English to convey messages that criticize the current political situation in which the Palestinians live. Safadi has traveled to Finland, and also went on a tour of performances in Northern Europe. Jowan Safadi is considered a controversial artist, as he was persecuted by the Israeli authorities, and the Jordanian police detained him in Amman in 2012 on charges of insulting religion.
