Zy Montvilaite (born 21 April 1977) is а Lithuanian and Russian theatre, concerts and festivals director.

Biorgaphy[edit]

Youth[edit]

Ju Montvilaite was born in Vilnius in the family of a Lithuanian businessman (Donatas Montvila) and a doctor (Viktorija Montviliene). Thanks to her mother, organizer of health-related festivals and events, Ju has been passionate about theatre production since childhood. The girl was raised by performances of Lithuanian school directors such as Eimuntas Nyakroshus, Rimas Tuminas and Jonas Vaitkus.

Ju started performing on stage when she was 3. In the school years, she took part in directing children's theatre and television stagings, and, growing older, she ran a drama club for children, receiving a salary along with teachers. At the age of eighteen Ju fell in love with director Oskaras Korshunovas’ theater, which completely changed her idea of what a theatrical performance could be like. In 1995 Zhivile entered the Lithuanian State Conservatory, where she studied the organization of large scale events. Six months later, Ju decided to move to Moscow, having always been fascinated by the legend of the Russian theater. Zhivile was enchanted by the system of Mikhail Chekhov, and the phrase from Anton Pavlovich Chekhov’s play "Three Sisters" - "To Moscow! To Moscow! "- became her beacon at that time period.[1]

From 1996 to 2001, Zhu studied at the Russian University of Theatre Arts GITIS, specializing as a "theatre director" (Leonid Kheifets’ studio). According to Zhivile, GITIS remains one of the best theatre schools. After graduating from GITIS, Zhivile took a one-year master course at Moscow Art Theater School and the Meyerhold’s theatre and cultural center. (headed by V. Fokin). Ju quickly merged with Moscow’s theatrical life.

Her production is considered effective and technological by many critics. [2] Actors are actively involved in Montvilaite’s plays and performances and viewers are engaged as well. The play "Parasites", staged in Meyerhold’s center, touched upon a scandalous theme against terrorism at the NET festival in 2002.

In the production of E'FEDRA[3], many video cameras were installed in the Hermitage Garden broadcasting the happening on screens; during the show, spectators walked around the decorations, could rest on recumbent places, talk on mobile phones and dance with the actors. [4]. Спектакль "Паразиты", поставленный в центре им Вс. Мейерхольда затронул скандальную тему против терроризма на фестивале NET в 2002 году. [5]

For Shlem.com - a play based on Victor Pelevin’s work "The Helm of Terror", staged in the theater center "Na Strastnom" - a special computer program was developed which allowed the viewers to interact with the multimedia space.[6]

Outside of Theatre[edit]

Ju’s work is not limited to theatre only. In 2003, she directed the concert of the musical band "t.A.T.u." at Tokyo Dome – the city's largest venue. Tens of video projectors were installed in the dome, broadcasting the image to huge projection screens, with a total area of 1728 m2.[7]

T.A.T.u.’s concerts were co-created with the producers Ivan Shapovalov and Vladimir Meskhey. The creative union with Meskhey turned out to be fruitful. The producer and director duo began developing the field of emotional entertainment, immersive shows, where the viewer becomes a full-on participant of the action. They created a company called Rise Entertainment[8], which brought together professional artists, actors, costumers, make-up artists, etc. [9]

In 2007 Montvilaite and Meskhey threw a costume ball celebrating the wedding of the artist Margo Trushina [10] and the founder of the "Solo" furniture company, Salavat Timiryasov. After this celebration a ball and a non-profit open-air festival Midsummer Night's Dream [11] based on Shakespeare's play of the same name was born.

The festival takes place at various venues in Moscow and its outskirts - in the Serednikovo manor of Stolypin-Lermontovs', the VDNKh park, the Aptekarsky garden. Spectators reincarnate into fairy-tale creatures and enjoy the most progressive achievements of theatre, music and contemporary art. A special role in the production of the festival is given to the scenery, lights and, of course, the guests themselves in their costumes. The Midsummer Night's Dream Festival, which has become an annual festival, quickly grew famous and gained an international status.[12]

Rise Entertainment has produced other events such as Midwiner Ball – a New Year's ball for the children and AFTERHALLOWEEN parties. On the New Year's Eve of 2017, an interactive show "All Shades of Fiery" took place, where which the guests of the "StandArt" Design Hotel were able to undergo an exciting journey through the most revolutionary moments of the 20th century.[13]

Ju’s performances are of high demand in private behind-the-scenes circles. Private events, directed by Ju, are highly called for among the representatives of business and politics in Russia and abroad.[14]. Закрытые мероприятия [15]
