Sebamalainayakam Jude Suban is a Sri Lankan professional football player who plays as a defender for the Sri Lanka national team and Renown SC in the Sri Lanka Super League. He started off as a player for the Sri Lanka under-15 team and continued to play for the under 17, 19 and 23 teams. Now he is one of the key players who continuously starts for the senior national team. He is well known for his free kick taking ability.

Suban was born on 30 July 1998 in Jaffna, Sri Lanka. He went to St. Henry's College, Ilavalai. Currently he is an undergraduate at the department of sport science at the University of Sri Jayawardenapura, and hoping to become the first football player in the island to have a BSc Hons degree in sports.

Early life

The first inspiration on football came from his family, where all his elder brothers were football players, and his fourth elder brother, Gnanaruban Vinoth, is a former Sri Lankan National team footballer. That inspired Suban to become a national player by following his brother’s footsteps.

School career

He started off as a player for the under-15 team for St. Henry's College, Ilavalai, and continued to play in the under 17, 19 and 20 teams. He had won many trophies in school life. The following are a few of the most special ones: Under-15s and Under-17s All Island Runner-up Under-19 All Island 2nd Runner-up Under-20 All Island Champions Under-19 Kotmale Chox Champion. Northern Premier League Man of the Match when his team won the championship.

Club career

He started his club career at Solid FC Anuradhapura in 2015, where he got more than 50 first team appearances. Then he moved to Renown SC in 2017. Because of his playing style and experience, he was awarded the club captaincy for the FA cup tournament in 2019.

International career

Suban made his senior international debut for Sri Lanka on 29 August 2018 against Bangladesh when Sri Lanka took a 0-1 victory against the home team. From that point onward, there hasn’t been any looking back for Suban and he continues to play a key part in his national side. He scored a brilliant free kick goal against Nepal in the 13th South Asian Games 2019.
