Julia Michelin is a Brazilian dentist, author and health-technology entrepreneur whose work focuses on artificial intelligence in dentistry. She is the founder and chief executive officer of Luma Brush Medical, a company developing an AI–based system for at-home oral-health monitoring. Dr Michelin is the author of foundational scientific research on AI-based detection of oral disease published in May 2026 on BMC and Springer Nature medical journals.[1] In 2026, The Arabian Mirror featured Michelin in its "Top 10 Most Trusted Leaders and Their Brands"[2] highlighting her work in AI-powered dental diagnostics and her role as founder and ceo of Luma Brush Medical. Michelin has practiced clinically in multiple geographies, and is the author of the book The Future of Dentistry – How AI Will Change Everything (2026).[3]
Career
Clinical practice
Michelin has worked as a clinician across five countries, with clinical experience in Brazil, Ireland, Australia, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates.[4] She has also carried out volunteer and community dental work in remote regions, including in Brazil, Kenya and the Amazon.[5][6] Michelin participated in oral health outreach initiatives with the Instituto Ítalo Ferreira, providing dental education and preventive care for children in the Brazilian community of Baía Formosa[7]
Artificial intelligence in Dentistry and Healthcare
Since 2024, Michelin has focused on the application of Artificial Intelligence to dentistry and broader healthcare.[8] She has spoken at industry conferences on AI technologies for dentistry and has lectured at dental universities as an adjunct professor.[9] She previously worked as the ceo of Dental AI Technologies where she worked on smartphone enabled imaging diagnostics for oral care in remote areas.[10] Michelin has delivered keynote addresses at events including IDEX Istanbul (2026), Digital Dentistry Congress (2026) and IA Odonto Brasil (2025).[11][12]
Luma Brush Medical
In 2025 Michelin founded Luma Brush Medical (styled LumaBrush.AI), where she serves as chief executive officer and Founder.[13] The company develops a smart toothbrush fitted with an intra-oral camera that, when paired with a mobile application and a foundational convolutional neural net (CNN), is intended to allow users to screen for a wide range of oral-health conditions at home.[14]
